Hmm where do we start...

http://thesilverwolf77.wordpress.com/category/stargate-universe/ thats a good place, quoting a buddy of mine. Secondly a review of my own.

I did actuallly like it, but there is a HUGE, GIGANTIC, UNIVERSE sized difference. Described by Gateworld as having found the sweet spot between Star Trek: Voyager's Optimisim in the face of a disturbing premise and Battlestar Galactica's (Nu Version) dark and broody depressive take on being many light years from home, this 'Gate has big shoes to fill.

So we come down to the cast.

Robert Carlyle - Yes a pretty big movie star with a hell of a lot of acting chops playing a complete and total machievellian person. He makes you hate him and to be honest, that's brave as scriptwriters and for the actor. I don't know where he is at, you expect him to turn one way and he goes the other. He keeps characters and viewers on their toes.

Louis Ferreira - to be honest never heard of him, and to be honest didn't impact me too much either (explains the never heard of or seen before) the whole concussion paralysis resolved in 30 mins was a bit bullshit too.

Brian J. Smith - Again not heard of, but he is YOUNG ( a puppy) and he hasn't exactly much of a body of work, that said the boy has chops, knows when to use beats, when to move in and move out of space and uses it very well, he instincts were top notch too, he may be one to watch, because I am right behind this kid!

David Blue - "The Fan boy" Ok he is the antithesis of the ego centrism that Rodney McKay had, but alledgedly the intellect. Yet to be seen. Again this guy left me cold, I don't know whether I was expecting McKay because of the way they had him dressed or whether it was just lack of persona, but I couldn't get there.

Jamil Walker Smith - Something about this guys character made me have the creeps the way he looked, they way he dealt with people, everything says SHARK. Character that will cause issues.

Elyse Levesque - Plays Chloe - I like this one, she is incredible and reached out of the screen when watching her father die. I didn't immediately warm to her, but I did by the end she is emotionally resonant. I expect Chloe and Smith's Character, Lt. Scott to get together and I may end of shipping them.

Alaina Huffman - TJ- Intereseting, I expect there may be something more going on with her, things are hinted. I think to be honest this actress was diallingit back, perhaps a 10% extra would have helped her make her mark, but still left enough impression to make me want to watch her scenes.

Ming-Na - Camille Wray - Hard nosed bitch award goes to. I am not a fan, she wanted to assert power as IOA, and that never goes well. She is the much touted Lesbian, who is in a relationship with Reiko Aylesworth's character Sharon. To be honest not looking forward to this one.

All in all there were clunker times, it just didn't gel or the actors weren't comfortable with phrases or speeches. I ti s in no way it predessesors and I miss that. It is mature, and there were scenes that had no rhyme or reason being there (Just as the nudity in SG-1's premiere 12 years ago was a clunker then.) If they manage to keep to premise, get the actors to warm to the scripts more and produce a cohesive effort, this may just work. As a report card would say, needs more work and a bit more life and humour please.
